Conclusion
Sumter’s location, President Buchanan, Major Anderson, President Lincoln and President Jefferson Davis all contributed to the beginning of the Civil War at Fort Sumter, causing it to occur where it did and when it did. Although the Civil War was inevitable from the beginning, it was these people and places that drove the Civil War to begin on the early morning of April 12th, a mortar exploding over Sumter like a starter’s pistol in a race, a sign that war had begun.
